Hello, and welcome to my site. I hope you enjoy your stay. My name is Brenda Potter and I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Nova Scotia is pretty much surrounded by the ocean, as is the Halifax peninsula. The picture above and at the bottom of this page were taken at Point Pleasant Park located right here in Halifax. The park is one of my favourite places, especially to take my dogs.
I obtained my first Siberian, Chimo, in 1977. Since this time I have always been owned by a small number of Siberians. I have, however, also co-owned several others with close friends over the years which allows me to continue a limited breeding program without getting up in number of dogs.
I can be best understood by realizing that my dogs are, first and foremost, my house pets. I do enjoy doing a variety of activities including conformation (dog shows), sledding, obedience, rally-o, agility, pet therapy work and freestyle dancing with my dogs. However, at the end of the day or when they are no longer able to participate in these activities, they will always have a couch or a bed in my house to curl up on. They have all lived out their entire lives with me.
Breeding is something that is undertaken very seriously and only occasionally. When considering a dog for breeding my preference is a dog that has the temperament, intelligence and phyical ability to be a multi purpose dog, a dog that can not just obtain its campionship but can also work well in harness and enjoy a variety of other activites with its owner.
Chimini Siberians that are used for breeding have their hips OFA or OVC cleared, their eyes are cleared by a certified ophthalmologist and to the best of my knowledge are free of other hereditary health problem at the time of breeding. Any puppy that I sell, whether for pet or show, goes to their new home with a five-year written health guarantee. All puppies are also: registered with the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club), are home raised, tattooed, de-wormed, vaccinated as appropriate for the age of the puppy and I will be available for after sale support for the life of the dog.
Siberians are without question one of the most beautiful breed of dogs in existence, but this fact alone does not make them the right breed for everyone. My objective is to do my best to help the potential new owner understand whether a Siberian is the right breed for them. I take very seriously my obligation to ensure that every dog I breed has the very best opportunity to be successfully placed the first time around, rather then to be coming back to me in the future looking for a new home. I have been fortunate to have been able to follow many of my puppies throughout their entire lives, sometimes even going with their owners for that last trip to the vet's office.
If you feel that you are sincerely interested in a Siberian Husky, visit the "Information" and the "Litters" (where any upcoming litter will be announced) sections of this web site. As well, visit other Siberian web sites, read books, articles etc., on the breed to try to find out as much information about the breed as possible before obtaining a Siberian. Please be very sure the Siberian is the RIGHT breed for you before obtaining one.
